The Irish Athletic Boxing Association extends its congratulations to newly-elected Spanish Boxing Federation (FEB) President Felipe Martínez.

Mr Martinez was elected at the FEB General Assembly after receiving 28 votes.

Felicidades con tu éxito.

The new President claimed a bronze medal for his country in the light-fly class at the inaugural 2003 European Union Championships in Strasburg.

World Elite silver medallist Joe Ward has his eye on a fifth Irish 81kg title at the National Elite Men’s and Women’s Championships at Dublin’s National Stadium, a venue he describes as a special place.

The Rio Olympian and current European champion meets experienced light-heavy Michael Frayne in the last-four on Friday and is eagerly looking forward to competing at the flagship tournament of Irish boxing for the first time since 2014.

Two-time Elite champion Kurt Walker will be aiming to edge a step closer to securing his third belt from the last-four of the National Elite Men’s and Women’s Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday night.

 

But the Canal BC bantam, who meets experienced Dubliner Evan Metcalf for a place in the finals, admits that he’ll to stay sharp ahead of a big year for Ireland’s male Elites in international competition.
