Stephen McKenna completed a fine day for the McKenna family in European competition – Aaron McKenna won in Russia earlier today –  with an impressive win in the German Bundesliga tonight.

The Old School BC bantam, lining for the BSK Hannover-Seelze, beat Jamiro Klasing from the home town Box-Club Straubing in Straubing on a unanimous decision in the Bavarian region. read more

Irish captain Aaron McKenna booked his ticket into the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial finals after a 64kg tour de force in Anapa, Russia today.

The Old School BC stand out beat Uzbek light-welter Bilobek Mirzarakhimov, the current AIBA World Junior champion, on a 4-1 split decision.

“Absolutely outstanding from Aaron,” said Irish coach Billy McClean who is working Ireland’s corner with Aaron’s dad, Fergal, in Anapa. read more

MOORE BOWS OUT AT EUROPEAN U/22s

Irish flyweight Jordan Moore lost out in his bid to reach the semi-finals at the European U/22 Championships in Braila, Romania today.

The Dubliner was beaten on a unanimous decision by England’s William Cawley.

Moore clipped home some neat lefts in response to Cawley’s forays in the first, but received a public warning for dropping his head in the second, a round he needed medical attention in after picking up a cut near his left eye, although he finished out the frame with an excellent hook to the head of his opponent. read more
