DUFFY AND FLAVIN BOW OUT AT EURO U/22s

Dylan Duffy and Keith Flavin bowed out of the European U/22 Championships at the quarter-final stage in Braila, Romania today.

The results bring Ireland’s competitive interest in the tournament to a close.

Duffy, in against Yaroslav Khartsyz, countered well, particularly in the latter stages of the second round, against the constant aggression of the Ukrainian, whose work, whilst being untidy, impressed the judges enough to earn a place in the last-four.

Ireland’s top prospects experienced mixed fortunes in the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial finals in Anapa, Russia this morning.

Irish captain Aaron McKenna capped a magnificent tournament after convincingly beating Russia’s Rashid Yangazie in the light-welter final on a unanimous decision.

But World Youth bronze medallist Gabriel Dossen, who was down in the second, had to settle for silver against Yangazie’s compatriot, Danis Gabdrafikov, in the welter class.
