4 wins from 4 for Ireland at the European Youth Championships

Ireland claimed at least 2 bronze medals at the European Youth Championships in Porec, Croatia, today.

Team Co-Captain and European Junior champ, 63kg Ava Henry met Hungary’s Kata Viktoria Muncz and made short work of securing at least a bronze medal, with a Round 2 RSC.

66kg Kyla Doyle Byrne boxed Dilara Sak of Turkey 3 bouts later – and also wins a podium place following a 4-1 split decision in her favour. Judges scored the bout 28:26; 28:27; 27:28; 28:27; 28:26.

European Junior Champion 71kg Tadhg O’Donnell opened his Youth Championship account against Daniil Sauchanka, boxing for IBA-B. Tadhg secured a decisive UD, scoring: 30:27; 29:28; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27. In Ring B’s Evening Session, 63.5kg Ryan Jenkins contested against Rafayel Nersisyan, and was similarly dominant, with a 5-0 decision. Judge scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30. Both boxers are now through to their respective quarter finals.

33 countries and 330 boxers are contesting the competition, in Porec, Croatia. Participation federations are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, IBA – B, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.

Day Seven

Four boxers are in action in Day 7’s Quarter Finals. First up, in Ring A’s Afternoon session, beginning at 1pm, 48kg Tiffany Spencer takes on England’s Ruby White in Bout 3. In Bout 8, 52kg Grace Conway Dowling meets Poland’s Martyna Koczkodaj.

In Bout 8 of Ring B’s Afternoon Session, 54kg Nicole Kinsella contests against France’s Maloe Teresi. In Bout 9 of Ring B’s Evening Session, beginning at 4.30pm, 92+kg Adam Olaniyan is in against Turkey’s Baran Celik.
