Doyle & Olaniyan win World Youth Championship medals.

Kyla Doyle and Adam Olaniyan will join Siofra Lawless on the podium at the World Youth Championships.

Team Captain, superheavy Adam Olaniyan, was the only Team Ireland boxer in action in the Afternoon Session. He contested for a medal against Hungary’s Brendon Nemeth and outclassed his opponent from the off, claiming a 5-0 win on a score line of 24:30; 24:30; 25:30; 24:30; 24: 30.

66kg Kyla Doyle opened proceedings in Ring B’s Evening Session, boxing Uzbekistan’s Rayhona Kurbonboeva. This was a highly competitive bout, but Kyla claimed – the reigning European Youth champion at the weight, got the win and her foot on the podium following a 4-1 split decision. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 28:29; 28:29; 29:28; 28:29.

8 bouts later, 57kg Jamie Graham put in a stylish and courageous performance against Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov, the reigning Asian Youth champion at the weight. It wasn’t to be on this occasion, with the decision going to Olimov on a score line of 29:28; 30:27; 29:28; 30:27; 29:28

This tournament is the pinnacle of competition for boxers of this age group. 660 boxers from 88 national federations will represent their countries at the championship, which is being hosted by the Montenegro Boxing Federation from October 20th to November 6th. November 1st will be a rest day at the tournament, and all finals will be boxed on November 2nd and 3rd. The competition schedule is available here

Day Nine

Siofra will box to up-grade her medal against Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva in Bout 4 of Ring A’s Afternoon Session. Adam will take on Iraq’s Amir Vandei Esmaeili for a place in the finals in Bout 13 of the same ring and session

While Kyla will contest against China’s Shantibieke Dina in Bout 4 of Ring B’s Evening Session.
