Four Team Ireland boxers 1 win away from a Women’s European Championship Medal.

4 Team Ireland boxers are now one win away from a Women’s European Championship medal, following day two action in Montenegro.

First up was 52kg Carly McNaul, who claimed a 5-0 win over Ana Alexandra Gheorghe of Romania. The judges scored the bout 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27. She boxes her Quarter Final on Tuesday. Olympian and Commonwealth Games champion, 57kg Micheala Walsh progresses following a 3-2 split win over France’s Amina Zidani – 28:29, 29:28, 28:29, 28:29, 29:28. Reigning lightweight Olympic champion, Kellie Harrington, won a split decision victory over Ozer Gizem of Turkey.

These three boxers, and welterweight, Kaci Rock, are one bout away from the podium – Kaci has a preliminaries bye and begins her competition in the Quarter Finals, against Germany on Wednesday.

Four Team Ireland boxers are in action tomorrow – World Champion, Amy Broadhurst, takes on Turkey in Bout 2 of the evening session. Tina Desmond meets Ukraine in the evening session’s bout 9, while Olympian Aoife O’Rourke is in action in bout 9 of afternoon session, against Greece. That’s preceded by the meeting of European U22 champion, 54kg Niamh Fay and Ukraine in bout 8.

48kg Shannon Sweeney won’t box until Monday’s afternoon session, where she’ll meet Armenia. Light fly, Caitlin Fryers, also waits until Monday, when she contests against England in the evening session.
