Irish squad at 2017 European Championships

The Irish Men’s World Elite Championship side travel to England today for their final training camp at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

The 2017 World Championships begin in Hamburg, Germany on August 25th, according to the International Boxing Association.

Brendan Irvine, Kurt Walker, Sean McComb, Joe Ward and Dean Gardiner have qualified for Germany.

All five met the qualification standard at June’s European Championships in the Ukriane where Ward won gold, his third gold at this level, and Irvine and Walker claimed bronze.

Ireland will train and spar with England, Bulgaria and Scotland in Sheffield.

The squad return home on August 18th for a short break and leave for Hamburg on August 22nd.

280 boxers have qualified for the 2017 World Championships – 260 through the five Continental Championships.

Twenty places went to the host nation (10) and wild cards (10).
