Team Ireland claimed three wins on day three of the IBA Women’s World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.

Tokyo Olympian, 57kg Michaela Walsh, received a by, and took on USA’s Amelia Moore in the Women’s Featherweight Round of 32. It was a close and testy bout, but the Irish woman came out the unanimous decision victor – 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30: 27, 29:28

Amy Broadhurst, competing at 63kg, took on Croatia’s Sara Beram in bout 9 of Ring A’s afternoon session. Amy was dominant throughout the bout, also claiming a UD. 29:28, 30:25, 30:27,30:27, 30:27

Two bouts later, in the same ring and session, 75kg Aoife O’Rourke made her tournament debut against Naomi Melissa Graham of the USA. This was a very close bout, throughout, and the 4-1 split decision went to the American boxer. 29:28, 28:29, 30:27,30:27,30:27.

Carly McNaul, contesting at 52kg, opened proceedings in bout 1 of Ring A’s evening session against Burundi’s Ornella Havyarimana. The Irish boxer was dominant from the first bell, and her opponent received two standing counts during the bout, in round 2 and round 3. 30:24, 30:25.

50kg, Caitlin Fryers will make her tournament debut tomorrow, in the first bout in Ring B’s afternoon session. She contests against South Africa’s Thandolwethu T. Mathiba.
