A top of the podium finish in Russia at the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial led to a top of a podium position at the St Patrick’s Day celebrations for Galway’s Kieran Molloy and the Oughterard BC yesterday.

Ireland finished in joint 5th spot with Georgia in the medals table at the presitgous Memorial, known as the mini World Championships, in Anapa earlier this week.

Russia, who used 57 boxers, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ireland and Georgie, in that order, commanded the top positions.

Molloy, whose name is spelt  МАЛЛОЙ Киеран in the Russian alphabet, claimed gold and Michael Nevin took home bronze from Anapa. Team Ireland were in training camp and competition with Russia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Scotland and the world’s top boxing nations in Russia.
