CELTIC BOX CUP BEGINS TODAY IN WATERFORD

The eagerly anticipated Celtic Box Cup begins at the Dungarvan Sports Centre in Waterford this afternoon.

Teams from Australia, Europe and Ireland have entered the 2016 edition of the Cup,which Tournament Director Gerry O’Mahony confidently predicts will be the best and most competitive ever.

IABA President Pat Ryan will officially open the 2016 event at 2.15pm this afternoon.

The Celtic Box Cup was founded in 2013 and has since evolved into Ireland’s Premier international boxing tournament.

2016 CELTIC BOX CUP SCHEDULE

Friday 23rd September
Medical and weigh-in between 7:45am and 11am
All boxers must weigh-in,there is no weight allowance
Draw at 1pm, running order for Friday immediately after draw.
Opening ceremony at 2.15pm. Boxing begins at 2.30

Saturday 24th September
Medical and weigh-in between 8am and 9am
500 gram allowance
Boxing begins at 11am

Sunday 25th September
Medical and weigh-in between 8am and 9am
One kilogram allowance for finalists
Boxing begins at 11am

General Information

Boxers who receive a bye to the final do not have to weigh on Saturday.
Bouts will be boxed in the following order working from lowest weight to highest in the category:
Female Youth B (3×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Male Youth B (3×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Female Youth A (4×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Male Youth A (3×3 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Female B (3×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Senior B (3×2 min rounds)
Female A (4×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Senior A (3×3 min rounds)
Female Elite (4×2 min rounds) ( must wear headgear )
Male Elite (3×3 min rounds)
Bandages must be as per IABA rulebook (pro bandages are NOT allowed )
No RED gumshields are allowed and all boxers must be clean shaven
All coaches must be properly attired in the corners and no hats or baseball hats are allowed
