Esker All Female BoxCup 2017

Well that’s a wrap for another year folks! A fantastic weekend of boxing took place last weekend at this year’s Esker All Female BoxCup 2017 from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th October 2017

With just under 400 boxers registered and eventually just a little over 300 competing after weighing in, the tournament was destined to showcase the very best in female boxing from around the world.
We would just like to say a massive thank you to all of the wonderful officials who basically ran the show with good grace, humour and professionalism throughout.

Too many great people to mention here but a special thank you has to go out to Tara Mari of Monkstown BC who went above and beyond what she initially volunteered to do and we would have been lost without her.

A huge thanks once again to Philip Rooney and Marty O’ Neill for running both rings and dealing with queries with patience and manners. Thanks to all officials without whom we could not run this unique event in Irish and International amateur boxing on an annual basis.

Another group of people without whom the tournament could not be run is Caroline, Alfie, Martin, Eileen, Carol, Kelly, John, Tomo and everyone who ran the shop, helped at weigh ins, stewarded the hall, cleaned up afterwards and various other essential duties involved in running this event.

Thanks also to all of the Esker ABC members who gave up their time over the weekend, we really appreciate it.

A big shout out to Andrew, Tony, Brian, Barry and everyone at Colaiste Phadraig CBS Lucan for allowing us to use their fantastic facility for the last 3 years, you guys are amazing!

Thanks a million to Dave and Matt from The National Stadium for providing us with our two International rings for the duration of the tournament and we’d recommend them to anyone looking to hire boxing rings.

A special thanks to Majella and all at ACE Sports Awards for supplying our brilliant tournament medals and awards and we’d also recommend Majella for all of your medal and trophy needs.

We had two fantastic people manning our medical station for the tournament and we’d like to acknowledge and thank Ray Stears and Rebus First Aid for their professionalism and courtesy over the weekend.

Thanks to all of our tournament sponsors especially Dublin City Sports and Well Being Partnership for providing much needed sponsorship to a tournament that is ran solely by a club on its own, we really appreciate it guys and we will publish a full list of sponsors by the end of the week!

It was great to see new IABA President Dominic O’Rourke and IABA Registrar Stephen Connolly attend and thanks to them and several IABA Central Council officials for attending and supporting the Esker All Female BoxCup which takes place in DUBLIN…….

A massive thanks to Esker ABC President Brian Brady who was there throughout the weekend and is a fantastic ambassador for the club and tournament..!!

A huge well done and thanks you to Esker ABC coach Paschal Joyce for manning the car park and stewarding the hall with so many people and transport on both days, we love you man!!!

And finally a massive thank you to all of the boxers, clubs and officials who travelled from all over Ireland and The World to make this tournament what it is, a celebration of female boxing and the continued empowerment of female boxers going forward into the future!

Results, photos and more thanks will be posted in the coming days as we get them and most importantly REMEMBER them..!! Thanks again everyone and we hope to see everyone again at The Esker All Female BoxCup 2018 from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th October 2018….!!!!!

What can we say about Kevin Byrne who spent the tournament taking thousands of photos and bringing down DVD’s of last year’s Esker All Female BoxCup for clubs and boxers to bring home, what a legend! We’ll be putting up all of Kevin’s fantastic photos over the next week. Don’t forget to tag, save and share your photos..!!

We just can’t say enough about Paul Williamson of The Curragh Boxing Club who set up the online registration forms, sorted out the computer scoring and was always available to us to make sure the tournament would run as smooth as it possibly could. The man is a legend of Irish amateur boxing and we are and we’re delighted to have in involved. Thanks a million pal!

A massive thanks to Roy and Dave from The Big Kick Off show from Liffey Sound 96.4 FM for covering the tournament and also Aideen O’ Sullivan of RTE for recording footage of bouts and interviews for her upcoming documentary on female amateur boxing in Ireland and further afield, cheers guy’s..!!

We will endeavour to take on board and resolve any issues etc that arose this year before next year’s tournament. Any feedback positive or negative is welcomed so we can continously improve the competition. Email any thoughts, comments, suggested improvements to Ed at shandygriffin@hotmail.com

Thanks again everyone from all at Esker Amateur Boxing Club..!!
