Michael Gallagher, third from left, and fellow R&Js in Kazakhstan last weekend
Irish referee and judge (R&J) Michael Gallagher was in action in Almaty, Kazakhstan last weekend for both legs of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) quarter-final between the Astana Arlans of Kazakhstan and Venezuela.
The Tyrone man took charge of the light-heavy clash between Arman Rysbek and Nalek Korbaj on Saturday.
The Arlans, the defending champions, beat Venezuela, who Darren O’Neill lined out for earlier this season, 5-0 on the night to seal a 9-1 aggregate win following their 4-1 victory over the visitors 24 hours earlier.
Gallagher, a top AIBA R&J, was the third man in the ring for Friday’s fight between Abilkhan Amankul and Johan Gionzalez.
The Arlans, who had Eric Donovan in their ranks for the 2012 WSB season, will now meet the British Lionhearts in the semi-finals.
