Irish female captain Robyn Kelly, Nora Jackman, Robyn Murran, Yasmin Meredith and Kaci Crowley advanced to the semi-finals of the 2018 European Schoolboy/Girl Championships in Albena, Bulgaria today.

The five join Katie O’Keeffe, Winne Christina McDonagh, Dearbhla Tinnelly and Nasya McJin-Igelige in the last-four.

All nine athletes are guaranteed at least bronze at the first joint male and female tournament at this level.

Today’s wins see Irish boxing move tantalisingly close to the all-time 100-medal mark at European Schools level since the inaugural competition at Rome 2003 where two-weight world champion Carl Frampton won silver for Ireland.

The haul, as of this afternoon, now stands at 98 medals in 15 years of Continental Schools competition.

Sophie Elstone and Labhaoise Glynn were also in last-eight action this afternoon but lost out. Big performances from both girls.

Martin Collins, Michael Faulkner, Conor Donovan and Feidhlim Behan are between the ropes in the 2nd session today. Boxing begins at 3.30pm.
