Ireland will meet France, Germany, Italy and Russia in an Elite international tournament at the National Stadium later this month.

Match dates are April 28th, 29th and 30th, with Russia naming a 20-strong panel for Dublin.

France and Italy will use 7 and 10-strong teams, with female boxers in the three Olympic weights of flyweight, lightweight and middleweight.

Germany – with ex-Irish coach Eddie Bolger, who is now the coach with Germany, at the helm – will employ a 10-strong panel at the home of Irish boxing.

Ireland will use two teams.

Irish head coach Zaur Antia believes the tournament is ideal preparation in the build up to the European Elite Men’s Championships in Kharkiv, Ukraine from June 14th to 25th.

“The teams coming to Dublin are very strong and our boxers will have world class competition against these opponents in Dublin,” said Ireland’s chief seconds.

The 42nd European Championships is the sole qualifier for the 19th AIBA World Elite Championships in Hamburg, Germany from August 25th to September 3rd.

The top eight boxers (the quarter-finalists) in each of the ten weight classes in Kharkiv book tickets for Hamburg.

280 boxers will compete at the 2017 World Elite Championships. 260 places are up for grabs through the various Continental qualifiers in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The host nation take ten berths and there are ten wild cards.
