WORLD ALL-FEMALE TRAINING CAMP KICKS OFF IN OFFALY

 

The St Brigid’s BC in Offaly are hosting the biggest female sparring camp in the world in Edenderry this week.

Over 70 boxers from throughout the planet are taking in part in what Liam Brereton described as a fantastic camp.

“Brilliant first day. Seventy girls sparring tonight. So thankful to all visiting boxers, who are been just brilliant, and to all Irish girls and coaches and clubs for turning up tonight, really appreciate it,” he said.

India, with London 2012 bronze medallist Mary Kom, are due to arrive today. Kom has claimed five AIBA World Elite titles in a glittering career.

India will bring a 22-strong squad to Offaly. Kom has no intentions of hanging up her gloves just yet and is trageting Tokyo 2020.

The 34-year-old has also claimed four Asian titles at at two different weights.

Chelsea Curry, via social media, said: “Brilliant sparring at the sparring camp down in Offaly today, I had some great experience in the ring with girls from all over France,Norway,Canada and Ireland. All very good girls, loved every bit of it.”
