Team Ireland and an Ulster team are taking part in an elite multi-nations training camp, hosted by Federazione Pugilistica Italiana in Asissi.
The camp is in advance of the Women’s World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, from May 6th to 21st and the European Men’s Championships in Yerevan, Armenia, May 21st to 31st.

Team Ireland’s Head Coach, Zauri Antia, has praised the incredible achievements of Ireland’s record breaking European Youth Championship team.
Irish boxers won 3 gold medals at the European Youth Championships in Sofia, Buglaria.
400 boxers, from 40 nations, contested the tournament, which began last Thursday.
The Irish 2022 team has won more medals at this competition that any other Team Ireland Youth squad contesting a European level tournament.
Going in to yesterday’s finals, Ireland had four bronze medals, courtesy of 48kg boxers Georgia Dunn McGovern and Patsy Joyce, 50kg Katie O’Keeffe, and 63kg Winnie McDonagh.
Four boxers contested the finals. 70kg Laura Moran, who boxed Veronika Nakota of Ukraine, is coming home with a silver medal. Bringing home gold are Team Co-Captain, 71kg Bobbi Flood, 81kg Dearbhla Tinnelly and 81+kg Cliona D’arcy.
Speaking from a training camp with the Italian Federation in Assisi, Ireland Head Coach, Zauri Antia, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the record-breaking team, whose Head Coach, James Doyle, is a High-Performance Unit Pool Coach.
Zauri has noted the team’s remarkable success in winning 8 medals, 3 of them gold. He says this result, and the “overall performance of every one of 24 Team Ireland boxers, is testament to Head Coach/HPU Pool Coach James Doyle, and in particular, the boxer’s clubs and club coaches, the boxers’ own commitment to their sport and the support given to them by the families and club mates. “ He adds the team’s achievements bodes “very well for success of these boxers in the future”. He adds “all Team Ireland members in Sofia showed great team spirit, and it is wonderful that Ireland was awarded bronze Team of the Tournament.”

A 24 strong team contested the tournament representing Ireland and for many, this was their first time competing internationally. They showed maturity, composure and boxing skill in how they comported themselves at the tournament.
Ireland’s boxers also showed great team spirit, and could be heard singing and chanting throughout the tournament space whenever a boxer bearing the Irish flag got between the ropes. Team Ireland was awarded bronze team of the tournament. Silver went to England and Ukraine claimed gold.
