3 wins for Team Ireland on Day Four of the European Youth Championships in Sofia, Buglaria

70kg Laura Moran, making her tournament debut, was dominant throughout her bout against Fatma Erol of Turkey, forcing a standing count in Round 2, winning by way of Round 3 RSC.

Team Captain, Bobbi Flood, at 71kg, similarly, left no doubt as to the dominant boxer in his bout against Giorgi Akhalala of Georgia, with a 5-0 win.

In Ring B’s evening session, 57kg John Donoghue boxed out of the red corner when he contested against England’s Frankie Wood, in a testy bout. The Irish boxer came away with a 5-0 win.

Jason Nevin (60kg) boxed out of the blue corner against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Yarovyi in Ring A’s afternoon session – and the decision went to the boxer in red. Team Captain, 57kg Yasmin Meredith, boxed in the same ring and session when she met Asya Ari of Germany; she, also, came out the wrong side of a unanimous decision, after contesting with style. 63.5kg Tommy McDonnell took on Artur Mkrtchyan of Armenia, and it wasn’t to be for Tommy on this occasion. All three boxers put in impressive performances.

3 More Team Ireland Wins Banked At The European Youth Championships.

Ireland’s boxers came away with another three wins at the European Youth Championships.

The tournament, now in its third day, is being hosted by the Bulgarian Boxing Federation in Sophia, includes 400 boxers from 40 nations.

Jim Donovan, contesting at 67kg, was the first Irish boxer between the ropes in Sofia today. He boxed out of the red corner when he met Mekhman Namazov of Georgia. Jim was dominant throughout the bout, and came away with a 5-0 win.

54kg Shakira Donoghue made her tournament debut, and began with forcing first round RSC wins over Amelia Milewska of Azerbaijan.

48kg Georgia McGovern was the only Team Ireland boxer contesting in Ring B’s afternoon session.

She met Scotland’s Neely Burke, and recorded a unanimous win.

57kg John Donoghue opened proceedings in Ring A’s evening session, against Azif Bayramor of Azerbaijan. John became for fourth Team Ireland boxer on Day Three to win by unanimous decision.

80kg Ryan Murphy also made his tournament debut today, contesting against Mohammad Halil Dogru of Turkey. Ryan forced a standing count for his opponent in Round 2 – nonetheless, the decision went to his opponent.

At 51kg, Team Ireland’s Adam McKeena took on Amin Mammadzada of Poland, and it wasn’t to be on this occasion for Adam – the unanimous decision went to his opponent.

A Trio of Wins For Team Ireland At The European Youth Championships.

Team Ireland’s Tommy O’Donnell celebrating his European Youth Championships win

Team Ireland recorded a trio of wins on Day Two of the European Youth Championships in Sofia, Buglaria today.

400 boxers, from 40 nations, are competing in the tournament.

Tommy Mc Donnell met Zaur Gahramanov of Azerbaijan in a 63.5kg in a preliminaries contest – the Irish boxer claimed a 5-0 win in a contest in which both boxers were tied on points after the second round.

Cruiserweight Nathan Ojo contested against Italy’s Paolo Caruso in the afternoon session; Ojo put in a valiant performance in his European debut, but the 5-0 decision went to his opponent.

48kg Patsy Joyce boxed out of the blue corner when he secured a unanimous decision win over Armenia’s Tovmaysan Tumas

Super-heavy, Bernie Cawley, contested against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Zelenskyi – it wasn’t to be for Bernie on this occasion, following a 5-0 decision in favour of the Ukrainian boxer.

60kg Jason Nevin was the 5-0 victor in his bout against England’s Nelson Birchall and progresses from the last 32.

Middleweight, Joshua Olaniyan contested against Serbia’s Rastki Simic, and came out the wrong side of a unanimous decision.
