TEAM IRELAND TRAVEL TO SERBIA

Team Ireland flew out to Belgrade, Serbia this morning ahead of the opening bell for the World Elite Men’s Championships on Monday.

One hundred and five nations have registered to compete at the Worlds.

Ireland have been training and sparring at the High Performance Centre in Abbotstown and Great Britain’s High Performance Centre in Sheffield in the lead up to Belgrade.

The AIBA have announced that they will present belts and medals for the winners at the 2021 edition of the tournament.

The AIBA have also announced that there will be substantial prizemoney on offer.

The gold medalists will receive $100,000 US dollars and the silver medalists $50,000. The bronze medalists will receive $25,000.

WORLD ELITE TEAM ANNOUNCED

Following an extensive Covid related lockdown of grass roots boxing in Ireland over Approx. 18 Months, the IABA held their Elite championships in September and October this year to assist in the selection of a team for this year’s Elite World championships. The Men’s team then travelled to Sheffield the home of Team GB boxing to take part in world class sparring returning home today. The IABA High Performance team under the expert eye of Head Coach Zaur Antia were very happy with how the team performed up against top class opposition and have selected the following team to represent Ireland at the Elite Men’s world championships later this month in Serbia.
