ASIAN BOXING C’SHIPS POSTPONED

The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Championships in India have been postponed until 2021.
The event was awarded to India in February, and scheduled to take place in November and December.
Doubts over the event taking place were raised due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the cancellation and postponement of numerous sporting competitions.
Boxing Federation of India secretary general Jay Kowli said the Asian Championships will now be moved to 2021.
Kowli was among the participants at an ASBC Executive Committee meeting yesterday, where the decision was taken.
“A postponement was proposed owing to the conditions prevailing because of the pandemic and it was accepted,” Kowli told the Press Trust of India.
“India remains the host and the tournament will now happen in 2021.
“The 2021 window for it will be discussed in the next Executive Committee meeting in November.
“We have to be careful, the cases are on the rise everywhere.
“Unless it is definitive that there is a decline, it was thought best to put things on hold.

CLARIFICATION ON TRAINING NUMBERS 25/08/20

TRAINING IN MULTIPLE POD’S

Introduction:

Following the additional information issued by Sport Ireland late last week in relation to indoor and outdoor training, the IABA have subsequently been working with various stakeholders in an effort to produce additional guidance for clubs aimed at assisting them in implementing Pod training sessions in the safest possible fashion. The following guidance document has been issued to assist clubs who have the capacity to facilitate multiple pods during the same training session.

Clubs should firstly run a risk assessment of their facilities to ensure that they have adequate floor space before introducing multiple pod training sessions. The number of training pods a club can incorporate within a single training session will ultimately depend on the size of clubs training facilities.

Guidance on Multiple Pod Training Sessions:

• Boxing Clubs training within indoor facilities can do so in multiple pods of 6 once sufficient space is available and strict public health protocols are in place. For more information please visit:
http://iaba.ie/covid-19-guidance/
https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/c36c85-covid-19-coronavirus/
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/campaigns/coronavirus-covid-19

• Boxing Clubs participating in outdoor training sessions can do so in multiple pods of 15 once sufficient space is available and strict public health protocols are in place. For more information please visit:
http://iaba.ie/covid-19-guidance/
https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/c36c85-covid-19-coronavirus/
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/campaigns/coronavirus-covid-19

• Boxers within the same pod MUST always remain 2 meters apart when participating in pod training session. Please note this guidance will be amended once we have moved into the next phase and full contact training is reintroduced. At all times, participants within training pods should adhere to social distancing practices and other public health measures- hand hygiene, cough/ sneeze etiquette, etc. For more information please visit:
https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/c36c85-covid-19-coronavirus/
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/campaigns/coronavirus-covid-19

• A distance of at least 3 Meters MUST always be maintained between pods. It should be easily evident that pods are operating as independent groups with the no interaction between boxers from different pods.

• The maximum number of people allowed indoors in a sporting facility is currently 50. The number of pods will be dependent on the size of the venue. The total number of people should not however exceed 50.

• Coaches may oversee multiple pods however should not be directly involved in the activity or in close contact with multiple pods.

• Boxer should not alternate between pods during activity. The primary purpose of the pod system is to minimise the interactions and transmission of Covid-19 between people.

• Boxers should remain in the same pods for all additional training sessions while the current restrictions are in place.

• Boxers assigned to a pod should not interact with boxers assigned to other pods before, during and after training sessions. Once again, the primary purpose of the pod system is to minimise the interactions and transmission of Covid-19 between people.

• For Adult training sessions, coaches/support staff should be included in the pod sizes. For example, in the case of two multiple pods operating simultaneously indoors, ratios of 1:11 is acceptable once the coach has completed their Sport Ireland Covid-19 Officer online training. However, if the coach who is present has not completed this online training, a qualified Covid-19 Officer must also be present, changing the ratio for the scenario used above to 2:10.

• For Underage training sessions, there MUST be at least two adults present throughout. At least one of these adults MUST have completed the Sport Ireland Covid-19 Officer online training course. There should be at least one adult of each gender with mixed parties.

AIBA CONGRESS NEWS

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is to survey National Federations about holding a virtual Congress in December, according to European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) President Franco Falcinelli.

Falcinelli, writing in a monthly newsletter, said AIBA Interim President Mohamed Moustahsane confirmed the move after joining the continental body’s latest video-conference.

Holding the AIBA Congress virtually could be an alternative to further postponing the event into 2021.

“Dr. Moustahsane explained that in extraordinary circumstances, like the one caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is legally possible for AIBA to stage an online Congress and even hold Presidential elections in the same way,” Falcinelli wrote.

“Technical aspects must certainly be considered and the Interim President plans to survey all National Federations on this important subject prior to taking a decision.”

Request for Clarification on Additional Covid-19 Restrictions 21/08/20

Dear Members,
Please be advised, the IABA has written to Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland, requesting further clarification in relation to the additional Covid-19 restrictions announced this week. The IABA will endeavour to circulate this information/guidance amongst its membership once we have received official clarification from these state bodies.

We would ask that while we are awaiting official clarification, that all affiliated clubs remain prudent and follow the guidance issued to clubs on Wednesday 19/08/20.

This means that for the time being, boxing clubs MUST continue to limit the number of persons attending indoor training/club event sessions to 6 and for outdoor training/club event sessions the number of persons who can attend is limited to 15. Please be advised this includes coaches and/or support staff. For example, 1 Covid-19 Officer + 1 Coach +4 Boxers or 1 Covid-19 Officer (who is a coach) +5 boxers.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for their hard work and cooperation, and to recognise the frustrations being felt by many during these extremely testing times. The present situation we all find ourselves in is unprecedented and has the potential to evolve rapidly. As such, we would ask that all members remain patient and only follow guidance issued from the National Secretary and the National IABA website www.iaba.ie.

Please stay safe and kept updated on government guidance/advice. For more Covid-19 information please visit:
