Ireland V Austria Elite International

Ireland will take on Austria in a keynote Elite International in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, in May.

This is the fourth international to take place to date in 2025, following the hosting by Central Council of 3 Youth internationals against Wales, and France/India, in March. These took place in Derry, at the National Stadium, and at Holy Family Boxing Club, Drogheda.

This May 23rd international will feature 10 bouts, and three supporting contests. It is being hosted by Erne Boxing Club, as part of a pilot project. Austria has named its team:

M57 Elite Michel Marinkovic

M60 Elite Erik Burushijan

M63.5 Elite Sewak Burushijan

M67 Elite Alfred Nana

M71 Elite Rahman Altamirov

M75 Elite Marcel Menil

M75 Elite Malik Kahngariev

M80 Elite  Lucky Aimufa

M86 Elite  Michael Derouchie

Team Ireland’s team will be named in due course.

Structure

This is a pilot project, and a collaboration between High Performance Unit and Central Council. The structure involves a club, county board or provincial unit, in this case Erne BC, hosting the International, and making provision for a High Performance Seminar the morning after the International.

The host unit makes all of the local arrangements, including transport, food, board and venue for the International and the HP seminar, and retains all revenue raised on the door, less any attendant expenses. This pilot structure has the capacity to enable the holding of more Internationals, across all age groups and throughout the Association – which will have the net effect of increasing development opportunities for boxers and the staging of high quality boxing events in areas other than Dublin.

Following review of this pilot structure, Central Council may elect to make host bidding available to all club, county board and provincial units, subject to certain criteria.

Pre-Affiliation member management & Safeguarding workshops

A second phase of required pre-affiliation workshops is open for registration, in preparation for affiliation for the 2025/2026.

94 clubs attended the 16 workshops which took place between April 23rd and May 3rd. Seven more workshops will take place between May 12th and 23rd. Representatives of county boards and provincial units are also welcome to attend.

The workshops will assist clubs in a number of ways:

  • Introducing your club to the upgrade which means your club’s coaching and non-coaching volunteer profiles now include their Garda Vetting/Access NI check information. This means every club can see at a glance when their members’ vetting will expire.
  • Signposting your club in reviewing your coach data, to ensure all coaches’ qualifications are present, and accurate
  • Signposting your club in ensuring all members, not just competitive boxers, are included in their portals so that they are insured.

There will also be advisories and guides on:

  • The Garda Vetting/AccessNI check processes
  • The practicalities of managing a Safeguarding concern at a club level – what to do if a concern is raised in your club.

Registration & Schedule

Registration for all workshops is available here: https://shout.com/s/PgOaxwXW   Your club’s workshop attendee will receive the access link on the day of the workshop they’ve booked in for.
