LOUGH LANNAGH SUMMER BOXING CAMP REPORT

The schoolboys summer boxing camp in Lough Lannagh Holiday Village, Castlebar, Co.Mayo was completed on Friday just gone. The camp was yet again a success and enjoyed by all the participants, with some boxers attending for the second time.

The boxers accommodation was in the Lodge in the Holiday Village and they were treated like little kings by Paul and Geraldine and all their staff. Top quality food was produced each day for all their meals. The Lough Lannagh Holiday Village is a must for any holiday maker heading west!

The training premises was directly opposite the lodge which was ideal for all daytime training sessions. This is the Centre of Excellence for Connacht Boxing and home to Castlebar Boxing Club and it was a perfect setting for all boxing sessions.

Boxers came from all parts of the country to participate from Gleann B.C. up North to Sliabh Luachra down South and from St.Teresa’s in the East to Achill B.C. in the West. A tough week of training was enjoyed by all and hopefully boxers can bring their learning back to their clubs as they prepare for the new season.

Five of the boxers who attended the camp are also entered in the Senior Cadets starting this Friday and the camp coaches wish them all the best of luck in their endeavours to win the National Championships.

Track sessions were ‘enjoyed’ every morning and the boxers also got to use the lake itself (Lough Lannagh) for recovery sessions.Camp Coordinator Paddy Gallagher would like to thank everybody involved in Castlebar B.C. who helped make this Summer Camp a success especially Myles Cresham who was the link man between Castlebar B.C. and the IABA.

Sean Horkan was the man who pushed for his area to host a summer camp for schoolboy boxers and Sean fittingly visited the camp at different stages to see that all was going good.
