IRISH BRANDENBURG YOUTH CUP SQUAD

 

 

An-eight strong Irish male squad has been confirmed to the Brandenburg Youth tournament in Germany.

The tournament begins in Frankfurt/Oder on July 3.

Irish boxing has medalled at the prestigious Youth multi-nations in the past.

Current European Elite champion Joe Ward, Ryan Lindberg, Chris Blaney, Joe Fitzpatrick, Bernard O’Reilly, Michael O’Reilly (gold), Chirs Nevin, Hughie Nevin, Shane Flavin and Frankie Cleary (gold) have finished in podium positions by the banks of the Oder, located on the German/Polish border.

ESKER BC ALL FEMALE INTERNATIONAL BOXCUP

 

 

Online registration is now open for this year’s Esker All Female BoxCup 2018 from October 12th to 14th October in Dublin, Ireland.

Now in its 7th year, the World’s largest female only boxing tournament – The Esker All Female BoxCup 2018 – is now open for online registrati.

Entry is €15 per boxer payable at the official weigh is on Friday 12th October from 5-9pm and all participants receive a tournament medal and certificate.

Ten Best Boxer Belts are up for grabs plus The Paddy Hyland Best Team Cup which Tyne Tees Wear England won in 2017. Over 400 female boxers from around the world registered in 2017 and 2018 promises to be even bigger and better.

This is not an open tournament, boxers are graded according to number of previous bouts, experience, titles won etc, to ensure as level a playing field as possible

TEAM IRELAND RETURN FROM EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

 

Team Ireland returned from the European Elite Women’s Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria via Dublin Airport this evening.

Michaela Walsh and Kellie Harrington claimed two bronze medals at the 11th edition of the tournament.

The double secured a 9th place finish for Ireland’s three-strong squad in the medals table.

Walsh, Harrington and Grainne Walsh also qualified for the 2019 European multi-sport Games.

All of the Irish panel were beaten by the eventual finalists, with Harrington edged out on a split decision by Finland’s Olympic bronze medallist Mira Potkonen who secured gold.

Ireland won five bouts and lost three in Sofia.

MONKSTOWN BOXCUP GOES GLOBAL

 

A record-breaking 928 athletes have registered to compete at the 2018 Monkstown International Box Cup in Dublin this summer.

Nineteen nations – representing 191 clubs from Europe, Africa and the Americas –  will compete at the tournament.

Boxing boxing begins Friday, June 29th at DLR Loughlinstown Leisure Centre, Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin. See times & details on poster attached.

“Congratulations to all involved with the upcoming Monkstown International Box Cup 2018 – with registrations gone to a staggering 928 boxers from 191 clubs from 19 different countries, said the organisers.

“This makes the tournament the world’s biggest boxing tournament registered with AIBA (International Boxing Association) of 2018.”

“Staggering that the tournament is run by a large group of volunteers from the Monkstown (Dublin) Boxing Club. They have been actively working since last September preparing for this year’s event. EUROPEAN WOMEN’S ELITES CONCLUDE IN SOFIA


The 2018 European Women’s Elite Championships concluded in Sofia, Bulgaria today.

Team Ireland finished in joint 9th spot in the medals table with Belarus and Germany (IABA estimate, no medals table has been issued).

Michaela Walsh and Kellie Harrington claimed double bronze at the tournament.

Walsh and Harrington also qualified for the 2019 European Games, along with Grainne Walsh, in Sofia.

Team Ireland are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport at 7.30pm tomorrow evening.
