STRANDJA MULTI-NATIONS RESULTS

China served notice that they’LL be a force to be reckoned with at November’s World Elite Championships in New Delhi after claiming four female gold medals in the prestigious Strandja multi-nations in Sofia, Bulgaria last weekend.

Two of the top of the podium finishes were achieved in the established female Olympic middleweight class and welter, a potential limit for Tokyo 2020.

Bulgaria, with home advantage, also secured four gold medals, one in the established Olympic limit of flyweight and another at feather, also a potential Olympic weight before Tokyo 2020.

Finland’s Mira Potkonen, who beat Katie Taylor at Rio 2016, won lightweight gold at the 69th edition of the tournament.

Female boxing is heading into a massive year with the European and World Elite Championships scheduled for Poland in May and India in November.

Nineteen-year-old Keyshawn Davis won male lightweight gold for the USA and could line out for America versus Ireland in three internationals in Boston, Manchester and Springfield USA next month.

The Irish squad for the USA meeting will be confirmed shortly.

The Holy Trinity BC seconds was speaking after helping to guide Caoimhin Hynes to the vacant Irish light-heavy title versus Brian Kennedy at the National Elite finals last Saturday at Dublin’s National Stadium.

“But, speaking in general terms, if you can’t win a senior title, you should be questioning whether you should go pro or not, added Hawkins.

“Ask yourself the question and be genuine with yourself. Think very carefully about it.

“It’s okay chasing a dream, but what type of a dream is it?
