Pavilion 6, pictured, will be the venue for Ireland’s 6 – and hopefully more – at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The venue for boxing at August’s Olympics, Pavilion 6 in the Riocentro convention in the Barra da Tijuca region of Rio de Janeiro, was officially opened yesterday.

Pavilion 6 has a capacity of 9,000.

Paddy Barnes, Brendan Irvine, Michael Conlan, David Oliver Joyce, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward have qualified for Rio.

Irish boxing will be aiming to improve on that number in the three remaining qualifiers.

286 boxers – 250 males and 36 females – compete at each Olympics. The Games begin on August 5.
