Amy Broadhurst has been named Irish Times – Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year, having co-won the monthly award in May.

2022 has been an incredible year for the Dundalk woman, who boxes out of St. Bronagh’s ABC.

In May, she claimed light welterweight gold at the Women’s World Championship in Istanbul, seeing-off Algeria’s Imane Khelif.

Under two months later, she added another gold to her 2022 collection – this time, a lightweight Commonwealth Games gold after winning her final over England’s Gemma Richardson.

And at the Women’s European Championships in Montenegro, Amy not only claimed light-welterweight gold, but Boxer of the Tournament. This was an historic competition, all-round for Team Ireland, who were named champions of Europe, following the winning of 3 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal.

One of those Budva gold medals was claimed by Dubliner, Kellie Harrington – the reigning lightweight Olympic Champion was also honoured today at the Irish Times-Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year Awards; she was a joint recipient of the October accolade.

Amy shared her Sportswoman of the Month award in May with team-mate, Lisa O’Rourke – Lisa claimed her World light-middleweight title in Istanbul just 20 minutes after Amy. The 20 year old, from Roscommon, has also had a stellar year, claimed European U22 gold in March.

In a historic year for Irish soccer, the national women’s team received the Outstanding Achievement Award. The awards, now in its 19th year, also saw the selection of monthly winners, which included Ellen Walshe, Rachael Blackmore, Leona Maguire, and Ciara Mageean, honoured.
