Paris Wave: Women in Sport

As part of the Paris Wave, programme, and to assist boxers, coaches and clubs, IABA is hosting a Women in Sport conference on August 31st, with series of WIS related learning opportunities between that date, and International Women’s Day 2025, on March 8th.

Paris Wave Women in Sport Arc

As part of this programme, a series of Women in Sport Workshops will take place from September, culminating in a Women in Sport conference on March 8th, International Women’s Day.

  • October: Connacht Coaching Teenage Girls (in person event)
  • November: Munster Coaching Teenage Girls (in person event)
  • November: Connacht S&C for Female Combat Sport Athletes (in person event)

Paris Wave: Safeguarding

As part of the Paris Wave programme, and to assist boxers, coaches and clubs, IABA is now making additional Safeguarding courses available. All adults – coaches, committee members and non-coaching volunteers – in every club who have contact with children are required to have undertaken Safeguarding 1.

IABA has made available 10 Safeguarding 1 workshops to date in 2024, and 8 more are already scheduled for the period August to December. Additional Safeguarding Two courses, under the Paris Wave programme, are available, online, on the following dates:

In keeping with Sport Ireland best practice in Safeguarding training, workshops will be limited to 16 participants. In keeping with norms across the sporting community, the cost for this workshop is E20. Registration for each course will close 2 days before the date, and those who’ve registered will be sent payment information. The participation reservation will expire if payment is not received by 5pm on the scheduled day of the workshop.

Refresher

For all club members who have completed Safeguarding 1 training, but who wish to refresh their knowledge, the online Sport Ireland Safeguarding 1 refresher course is available here

Paris Wave: Coach Education.

As part of the Paris Wave programme, and to assist boxers, coaches and clubs, IABA is now making additional coaching courses available.

So far in 2024, 191 coaches have taken the first step on their coaching careers by completing Fundamentals: Assistant Coach courses throughout the Association.  54 coaches have taken the next step, by obtaining Level One: Club Coach qualification.

All coaching courses have a maximum capacity of 20 participants – up to 80 people can qualify as Fundamentals: Assistant Coaches through these additional courses, and another 80 people can achieve Level One qualification.  

To be eligible to undertake Level One coaching courses, participants must hold a Fundamentals qualification for 6 months or more.

Clubs can register members to participate in these courses through their Blocworx portal.

The scheduling and location of all Coach Education courses is subject to the availability of Coach Developers.
