Team Ireland adds to Silesian Box Cup medal haul.

Team Ireland will now bring home at least 6 medals from the Silesian Box Cup.

57kg Natalia Fascizewska (Castlebar) opens her tournament at the Quarter Finals stage against Poland’s Maja Karbowinska in Bout 6, and claims at least a bronze medal following a round 1 RSC win. 63kg Rebecca Kavanagh (Mulhuddart) boxed her semi final against against Poland’s Kinga Krowka, and will come home with bronze following a 2-1 split decision in favour of her opponent.

Yet to box but assured of a medal are Team Captain 50kg Katie O’Keeffe (Kanturk) with a bye in to the final. Likewise, 54kg Niamh Keogh (Olympic Mullingar), who has a straight final against a home boxer.

Day Three

Two more Team Ireland medalists are between the ropes today. 66kg Gabrielle Mongan (Whitechurch) will boxes her semi-final against Amy Nolan of England in Bout 1. 81+kg Cliona D’Arcy (Tobar Pheadair) meets IBA Germany’s Sara Lysianne Glaser in her semi final in Bout 8.

Team Ireland’s womens youth squad begin boxing at the Silesian Box Cup with 5 medals in the bag. 50kg Katie O’Keeffe (Kanturk) will come home with at least silver, following a bye in to the final. Likewise, 54kg Niamh Keogh (Olympic Mullingar), who has a straight final against a home boxer. 63kg Rebecca Leech Kavanagh (Mulhuddart)has at least a bronze, and boxes her semi final against a Polish athlete. 66kg Gabrielle Mongan (Whitechurch) will also bring home some hardware – she boxes her semi-final against English opposition. 81+kg Cliona D’Arcy (Tobar Pheadair) is also at least a bronze medalist, meeting IBA Germany in her semi final.

70kg Nell McLaughlin (Eagle) opened Team Ireland’s account at the tournament in Poland, with three excellent rounds and invaluable development experience. Nell contested her quarter final against home boxer, Amelia Kostrzewa. The 3-0 decision went in Kostrzewa’s favour, 28:29, 27:30, 27:30.

Work in Boxing: Ulster Schools Boxing Coach

The IABA Ulster Branch is seeking dynamic individuals to join our team as Boxing Coaches to work part time hours, delivering high quality non-contact boxing sessions within schools in different locations across Northern Ireland (Derry/Londonderry, Strabane & Tyrone).

The aim of the coach is to create and sustain links between schools and clubs, introduce non-contact boxing sessions to schools and children that will be new to the sport. 

The role contains significant engagement element, strengthening communication pathways and creating sustaining links between schools and clubs, coaches and volunteers.

We are seeking a dynamic, driven and motivated person to join our team. The person will be highly organised with the ability to multi-task and manage their time in the most efficient way possible. You will also have a high level of verbal and written communication skills.

This post is an initial Fixed Term Contract, subject to continuation of funding.

Youth team to contest the Silesian Box Cup named.

A seven-strong team of Youth Women will contest the Silesian Box Cup for Team Ireland.

The tournament, an EUBC calendared event, is being hosted by the Polish Boxing Association in Gliwice. It takes place from September 3rd to 10th. The LOC is expecting in excess of 200 entrants, and has confirmed the tournament will be live-streamed on bokser.org. Boxing begins on September 5th, and finals will take place on September 9th.
