World Boxing has released the schedule for the World Boxing Championships, and shows how Team Ireland boxers will make their way to the podium.
The 17 strong team are drawn from Belfast (2), Donegal (1), Dublin (4), Galway (2), Offaly (1), Roscommon (2), Sligo/Leitrim (1), Waterford (2), Westmeath (1), Wicklow (1); all were crowned 2025 Elite Competition champions on June 4th at Belfast’s Girdwood Community Hub. That competition was the first to take place within IABA at World Boxing weights and was staged with the collaboration and support of IABA’s Central Council, led by President Anto Donnelly, and Ulster and Antrim regional councils. The team includes Paris Olympians Daina Moorehouse (51kg), Jenny Lehane (54kg), Grainne Walsh (65kg), Dean Clancy (65kg) and Jack Marley (90kg), alongside double Olympians Michaela Walsh (57kg) and Aoife O’Rourke (75kg). Aoife’s sister Lisa (70kg), who won World silver in March alongside her sibling, has also been named. So too have 2024 European U23 medalists Louis Rooney (50kg), Patsy Joyce (55kg) and Martin McDonagh (90+kg)
More than 500 boxers from over 60 countries are expected to take part in the World Boxing Championships, which will be the first Elite-level global championships hosted by World Boxing, the new International Federation for Olympic style boxing. It will be the biggest Olympic-style boxing event to take place in Britain since the London 2012 Olympic Games. The action will feature competition in 10 weight classes for both men and women and be the first time ever that male and female boxers have competed in Olympic-style boxing for the title of World Boxing Champion at the same event.
Contesting this Championships is made possible by IABA clubs’ decision in April to also affiliate to World Boxing, on a dual member basis. World Boxing, which will run boxing at the LA28 Olympic Games, affirmed IABA as a member in May.
Schedule
Boxing will begin on September 4th, with preliminaries and quarter finals concluding on September 10th. September 11th is a rest day at the tournament. Two sessions of semi-finals will take place on September 12th – while the first session on September 13th will see the completion of the semi-finals stage.
Finals will be boxed in the evening session on September 13th, and across both sessions on September 14th.

IABA is hosting two Youth Mental Health First Aid courses, one in August and another in September.
These courses, provided in partnership with Mental Health First Aid Ireland and the HSE, are specifically designed for adults who live with, work with or support young people aged between 12 and 18. This is an evidence-based training programme.
August 14th and 15th: Online Youth Mental Health First Aid Course
This course teaches participants how to assist a young person who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan. This evidence-based training programme is particularly suited to parents/guardians, school staff, sports coaches, community group leaders, youth workers etc.
Youth Mental Health First Aid Mental health topics covered
Depression
Anxiety
Eating Disorders
Psychosis
Substance Use Problems
International studies have shown that Mental Health First Aid training is associated with improved knowledge of mental health problems, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies. MHFA training is also associated with a reduction in stigmatising attitudes, an increase in helping actions as well as confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental health problems.
Course delivery includes the use of case studies, training videos, group activities and discussion throughout to enhance your learning. All participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion and a Youth Mental Health First Aid manual.
Important:
YMHFA training is not a therapy/support group and is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18 to attend.
If you have experienced a recent crisis or bereavement linked to mental health, we recommend that you wait 12-18 months before attending YMHFA training.
