IABA EXTEND SYMPATHIES TO HAWKINS FAMILY

 

The IABA would like to offer their deepest condolences to the Hawkins family on the death of their father Tommy.

Tommy was a founding member of the Holy Trinity Boxing Club in Belfast and the club has gone from strength to strength over the years. His son Michael continues to coach in the club and his grandson Michael Jnr carries on the family connection to Holy Trinity.

Tommy’s son Harry was a former Holy Trinity man also and now coaches Emerald Boxing club.

The funeral mass of Tommy Hawkins will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 28th November at 12 noon in the Holy Trinity chapel, Turf Lodge, Belfast.

PADDY BARNES APPOINTED (IABA) ULSTER CLUB DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

 

Paddy Barnes – Ulster Club Development Officer

Paddy Barnes has been employed as Club Development Officer for the IABA in Ulster.

Paddy has been involved in the sport of boxing for many years as a boxer with Holy Family B.C in Belfast.

He has won numerous Co Antrim, Ulster and All Ireland titles, as well as representing Ireland on the world stage.

Paddy is a three-time Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016),  2-time Olympic Bronze Medallist (2008 & 2012), WSB Champion (2015), 2-time European Medallist (Gold 2010, Silver 2013)
and also 2- time Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist for Northern Ireland (2010 & 2014).

Paddy is also a level 2 qualified coach and has a wealth of boxing experience.

He will work closely with IABA affiliated clubs across Ulster to advise and provide guidance in the club setting.

 

Well-Being in Boxing Seminar

Irish Athletic Boxing Association will be hosting a Well-Being in Boxing Seminar and Information Event on Friday 06th December 2019, in the Ringside Club, The National Stadium, Dublin 8.

This is a FREE event for members of IABA affiliated clubs. ​The event will feature an address from Dr. Julian Dalby – IABA Ringside Physician. A presentation on Concussion in Combat Sports which will include an audience Q&A, from Mark Beakey – Sports Scientist and Co-Founder of Concussion Coach. A presentation on Athlete Well-Being in Boxing include an audience Q&A,  from Irish Boxing greats Kenneth Egan (former Olympic Silver medallist 2008) and Eric Donovan (former Elite European Bronze Medallist 2010).

OPEN CLASS BOXING LEAGUES NOTICE

The IABA are planning on hosting tournament boxing in a league format for all open class boxers at senior and elite level.

All boxers who enter, both male and female, will be grouped according to their weights and matched to box in the National Boxing Stadium. The first night of boxing will be this Friday night.

Boxers participating will put themselves in a position to get on Irish teams for any upcoming Internationals. This league format is a not a High-Performance initiative and thus will not guarantee boxers selection on H.P. teams.

Any club with boxers willing to partake, are asked to send their boxers details to the National Secretary, Paddy Gallagher at paddythegaa59@gmail.com.

Please include boxers name, weight, club, year of birth and club coach contact details.
