IRISH SPORT AT LAST FIVE OLYMPIC GAMES

Ken Egan

There was disappointment that Irish boxing did not improve on its medal haul at Rio 2016.

However, Irish boxing has still claimed more Olympic medals than all other Irish sports combined from the last five Olympiads and more Olympic medals than all other Irish sports combined since the concept of High Performance was launched fifteen years ago.

Moreover, courtesy of Katie Taylor, boxing delivered our only Olympic gold in all sports this century at London 2012.

The total count for Irish sport since Sydney 2000 is twelve medals.Seven of those have been won by boxers.

Likewise, boxing has claimed 58% of the Olympic medals won by Irish sport since Sydney 2000.

And Irish boxing has delivered 63% of our Olympic medals in all sports since the launch of the groundbreaking High Performance strategy in 2001.
