CARTHY TO CAPTAIN IRISH SQUAD AT EUROPEAN U/22 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dublin super-heavy Thomas Carthy, pictured, will captain Ireland at the European U/22 Championships in Brăila, Romania next week.

Irish head coach Zaur Antia confirmed this morning that the Glasnevin BC man has been named Irish skipper.

Ireland’s chief seconds believes that they will face big tests at the 2nd edition of the tournament but is confident that they will perform well after an intensive five-week training camp at the Institute of Sport in Abbotstown.

The Irish panel finished up their training camp in Abbotstown yesterday and leave for Romania on Monday afternoon.

Thirty one nations – including Ireland –  will compete in Brăila.

Boxing begins next Tuesday. The start times will be confirmed by the organisers shortly.
