URGENT Leinster Championships

Dear members,

Please be advised that despite some confusion around the upcoming Provincial Championships, the Officer Board will be hosting the Leinster Championships this weekend in St. Michaels Athy (and Connacht Championships next weekend in St. Annes, Westport).

This is the only Championships in which boxers can qualify to go forward to the All-Ireland Boy/Girl 1 & 2’s. The reason for this is that the current Leinster Council (Connacht Council) are not affiliated or insured to run any events at present.

The draw for the Leinster Championships will take place on Friday afternoon (at a time to be confirmed) and a link will be sent to all the email addresses for boxers entered so that they can watch the draw live. Members need to download the free Microsoft Teams app to avail of this live link. The draw for the Connacht Championships will be announced at a later date.

Boxing in Leinster will commence in St. Michaels Athy this coming Saturday, 13th November and Sunday, 14th November. Times of boxing will be confirmed to all entrants following the draw.

Updated Competition Protocols

Dear members,

Following further consultation with Sport Ireland, as of today, Monday November 8th, underage boxers (under the age of eighteen) no longer are required to produce an EU COVID Certificate or undergo Antigen testing in order to participate in competition.

This revision is to ensure young people do not unnecessarily miss out on sporting opportunities.

Training in club environments must still remain with the ‘Pod of 6’ where members are not vaccinated or where mixed immunity exists. In a club environment where all participants are vaccinated, there is no limit to numbers involved for more information on training protocols please visit link below:

http://iaba.ie/site3/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Covid-19-Return-to-Boxing-Process-2.pdf

For events taking place, only fully vaccinated spectators can attend and they must be seated.

These measures are under constant revision and are subject to change depending on case numbers nationally. In the event of any changes occurring, we will endeavour to notify our members at the earliest opportunity.

Please see link below to updated (November 2021) competition protocols:

Due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, and potential changes to travel and social distancing restrictions and public health advise, the IABA may at short notice be unable to hold this year’s AGM in a traditional face-to-face format. If that is the case the IABA will endeavour to host a virtual only AGM on the same date and time.

Note: In order to attend a potential virtual meeting, you will be required to register via Eventbrite for tickets and also set up a Zoom Account with a matching email address per attendee. Details on how to do this will be provided in due course.

We would recommend that you set up your Zoom account well before the AGM, please see link to instructions on how to set up a Zoom account – http://iaba.ie/site3/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Instructions-for-setting-up-a-Zoom-Account.docx.

Please note that on Thursday 04.11.21 an objection to the AGM being held in Belfast was raised by an affiliated club, stating that “this meeting must be held in the state” the objection went on to say “ the proposed venue must legally be within the 26 counties”. This objection has been noted and we will update the membership as necessary.

Kind regards,

John Nangle
