CASSIDY ADVANCES BUT NESBITT BOWS OUT

Keylan Casidy advanced following a top drawer performance against Mexico’s Arriaga Olvera at the World Championships in Serbia today.

By Rickey Nesbittt bowed out of the tournament on a unanimous decision.

Cassidy was on top in all three rounds this afternoon against Olvera and turned on a master class, according to Irish team manager Peter O’Donnell.

The final scores read 30-27 x 4 and 30-26 to the Irishman. He’ll now be back in action on Monday.

Nesbit was beaten 5-0 by Uzbekistan’s Nodrjon Mirakhmador.

IABA Notice

On August 29th 2021 a meeting of The Central Council was held to discuss the decisions taken by the Leinster Provincial Council, Connacht Provincial Council and Dublin County Board to withdraw support for various other bodies within the organisation.

Three separate votes were taken and passed at this meeting with regard to:

* A vote of no confidence in the officers of the three units and the members who supported the decision to withdraw support

* An objection to the three units affiliation to the IABA

* That the parties involved in the decision have their membership of the IABA removed

The matter has now been referred by the Board of Directors to an independent Membership Panel to consider the matter and to make a final decision on.    

HESSION LOSES OUT AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Adam Hession bowed out of the World Championships in Belgrade this evening.

The Galway featherweight was beaten on a 4-1 split decision by Eduard Savvin of Russia.

However, many observers in Belgrade believed that Hession had done enough to win the fight.

Peter O’Donnell, Irish team manager, said that the Irish champion boxed out of his skin in an action -packed lively encounter.

Meanwhile. Rickey Nesbitt and Keylan Cassidy will be in action on Saturday..

HALE LOSES IN BELGRADE

JP HALE lost out on his World Elite Championships debut in Belgrade tonight.

The Antrim lightweight was beaten on a unanimous decision by Serbian southpaw Semiz Alicic.

Hale started well but Alicic started coming more into the contest as the bout progressed.

Next up is Adam Hession who meets Russia’s Eduard Savvin on Thursday.
