IABA Committee Appointments

Dear Members,

With the introduction of our new rule book following the National Convention last October, a number of new committees must be appointed.

We would very much welcome people to apply for positions on those committees, listed below, and if you would like to put your name forward please do so by Friday the 13th of November. People can also put forward the name of any person(s), who are members of clubs within their Unit, who they feel have the necessary skills and aptitude to apply for a position on any of the committees with vacancies. It is important that these committees are populated as soon as possible to fulfil our requirements around good governance in our organisation.

The main expectation is that those who put their names forward for a given committee:

·        are experienced, or have a competency, in the area in question.

·        have the time and motivation to attend about 6 – 8 meetings a year, each meeting being about 2 hours long. The meetings may be held online or over telephone, where the committee agrees it.

·        will be available to carry out further work or research on behalf of the committee, in between meetings.

·        can be present at the National Stadium for meetings or work that may be required from time to time, for certain committees.

The number of meetings that each committee will be expected to have will depend on their workload, their ability to complete tasks within set times, and the committee’s ability to collaborate on projects. Occasionally, when necessary, committee members may be asked to attend other meetings as requested by the Central Council/Board.

The committees are:

  1. High Performance Advisory Committee (Already filled)
  2. High Performance Selection Committee (Already filled)
  3. Non High Performance Selection Committee (Vacancies)
  4. Nominations and HR Committee (Board Committee)
  5. Child Protection Committee (Already filled)
  6. Audit Committee Board (Vacancy for a qualified accountant)
  7. Finance Committee (Vacancy for a qualified accountant)
  8. Championship Committee (Vacancies)
  9. Anti-Doping Committee (Vacancies)
  10. Judges, Referees Committee (Vacancies)

  13. Club Development Committee (Vacancies)
  14. Medical Commission (Vacancies for Medical professionals)
  15. Disciplinary Committee (Vacancies)

To apply please send your name, or the name of the person being nominated, to the email addresses below, noting which particular committee the nomination is for. If you would also like to include a brief description of skills and experience in the area of application this would be of great assistance.

Please send all applications to both:

TEAM IRELAND FINISH ASSISI TRAINING CAMP

Ireland finished their two-week training camp in Assisi, Italy today and are scheduled to arrive home tonight.

The Irish squad trained and sparred with Italy and India in Assisi.

The team were considering entering the Alexis Vastine Memorial which begins in Nantes, France today but opted not to take part in the tournament.

Bernard Dunne, IABA High-Performance Director, said that the squad got essential work done in Assisi.

“We got what we wanted out of the camp. Our guys got the work they needed done and we are very happy with the performances at the camp,” he said.

“It was good essential work and our guys got what they needed from it. The athletes have been fantastic.

“Thankfully, all of our team got some good work, shook off the cobwebs and are feeling fit and healthy. It was essential preparation for our team and everyone benefited from it.”

Team Ireland are building toward the European and World qualifiers for the Tokyo Olympics.

The qualifiers are expected to go ahead next February/March and May/June at venues to be confirmed.

The European qualifiers for Tokyo were cancelled after three days of competition last March in London because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nine Irish athletes will still be in play when the Europeans qualifiers resume.

Irish captain Brendan Irvine qualified for Tokyo in London and is through to the quarter-finals at the qualifiers where he’ll meet Spain Gabriel Escobar for at least bronze in the flyweight class.

The International Olympic Committee Boxing Task Force are expected to confirm the venues for the European and World qualifiers before the end of the year.

SPORT IRELAND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON LEVEL 5 RESTRICTIONS:

Ireland is now at Level 5 of the Framework for Restrictive Measures. Level 5 is expected to be in place for the next 6 weeks.

The Government’s guidance on Level 5 is clear, with the risk to public health meaning that individuals are asked to stay at home, with certain exceptions.

With regard to sport, the restrictions applicable in Level 5 are as follows:

  1. No training or matches should take place with the following exceptions:
  • Non-contact training can continue for school aged children, outdoors in pods of 15
  • Professional, elite sports and senior inter-county Gaelic games, horse-racing and greyhound racing are permitted to continue behind closed doors
  1. All other training activities should be individual only.
  2. No exercise or dance classes are permitted.
  3. Gyms/leisure centres/swimming pools closed.
  4. Exercise within 5 kilometres of home.

Facilities

As they are not recognised as essential services, the decision of Government is that all gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools and other sports facilities must close in the Level 5 restrictions. This includes both indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

It is permitted to open sports facilities for training sessions and scheduled matches for the exempted categories of sport, i.e. high performance, professional and senior inter-county Gaelic games. It will also be permitted to open outdoor sports facilities for structured training sessions by school aged children, i.e. those aged 18 years and younger, in pods of no more than 15, under the supervision of designated coaches and in compliance with approved COVID-19 protocols and all relevant public health guidance.

During these training sessions it will only be permitted for participants and relevant coaching and support personnel to be present. In the case of children’s sport, parents will be permitted to attend for child safeguarding purposes, however they will be required to comply with social distancing and other public health advice.

Professional & Elite Sport

Professional and elite sport must adhere to comprehensive protocols, which ensure extraordinary levels of control and compliance are in place. Professional and elite sport is defined as follows;

  • Professional sports people or sports people who participate within professional competition.
  • A Member of a high performance team funded by Sport Ireland.
  • Those who compete at major international events including European and World Championships, Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is advised that these are senior athletes only within one of the following categories:
    • Athletes on the 2020 International Carding Scheme
    • Players on the 2020 Team Ireland Golf Scheme
    • Senior riders in Show-Jumping, Eventing & Dressage
    • Senior team players in Hockey, Cricket, and Rugby Sevens.

Inter-county sport refers specifically to senior competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association or the Camogie Association.

It is important to note that protocols as they apply to each sport will be prepared and communicated directly by the respective National Governing Bodies.

Non-contact training for school aged children

Specific guidance on non-contact training for school agreed children will be issued by Government. In the interim, the following is advised:

  • Underage activity refers to those in primary and secondary school who are aged 18 years and younger
  • Participants and coaches may travel beyond the 5km limit to attend training. Car-pooling should continue to be avoided
  • Outdoor facilities may open only to allow the activity to take place. Only those participating in and conducting the training session should attend.
