IRELAND BEAT ENGLAND IN EDENDERRY

Irish squad and staff tonight

Ireland bounced back from losing the first two contests of tonight’s Senior Cadet international with England to claim a four-bout margin of victory at a sold-out St Brigid’s BC in Offaly.

Ireland won the 20-bout international 12-8.

St Brigid’s BC chief seconds and Irish coach Liam Brereton hailed the performances of both young sides in Edenderry.

Tipperary brother and sister, Jerome Lonergan-Gartland and Ellie Mae-Garthland, the first male and female twins to represent Ireland in a boxing international, both won this evening in a unique family and Clonmel BC double.

Darragh Farrell and Jason Myres brought the house down in two thrillers with England’s William Howe and Tommy Fletcher, both fights going all the way down to the wire amid a tremendous atmosphere.

Both nations meet again at the Athy GAA club in Kildare tomorrow. Boxing begins at 6pm.

Both countries are preparing for next month’s European Junior Male and Female Championships in Anapa, Russia.
