It was snow joke for Team Ireland in the USA yesterday, after they ventured out for a walk in a sub-zero climate in Boston.

The squad also trained at the Jim McNally Gym in Boston ahead of their Elite international meetings with the USA.

Both nations clash in Boston on Monday, 12th March, Springfield on 15th March and Manchester, New Hampshire on March 21.

The Irish squad arrived in Boston on Thursday and are eager to get in the ring and get proceedings underway, according to Irish team manager and High-Performance Director Bernard Dunne and head coach Zaur Antia

SMITHFIELD BOXING CLUB – THE STORY SO FAR

Smithfield Boxing Club: The Story So Far is a gala 14-fight international event at the luxurious Cartlon Hotel, Blanchardstown, taking place on April 14th.

The club are joined in commemorating a decade of boxing by the best that Denmark’s Grindsted Boxing Club has to offer.

Irish National Elite 91Kg Champion, SBC’s Kirill Afanasev, will headline the card.  Also taking to the ring will be Irish junior finalists and champions Lucy Purdy, Cian Brazil, Ciara Walsh and Raul Enache.

Afanasev, who is with the Irish Elite team in the USA for three meetings with America, hailed Smithfeild BC fans after claiming his first Elite belt at the home of Irish boxing last month.

“This is where it all begins to be honest. I’m feeling strong and confident. Thanks for everyone from coming down to support me. I could hear them from all corners. Onwards,” he said.

The MC on April 14th is Brian Daly, who is among the top corporate magic entertainers in the country, and was nominated as “Ireland’s Best Corporate Entertainer” at the Event Industry Awards.

The progressive Dublin unit will also be debuting a specially commissioned documentary, charting SBC’s evolution.

Smithfield Boxing Club’s Head Coach and founder-member, Igor Khmil, says: “This will be a very special event, celebrating the first chapter in Smithfield’s BC’s story, from humble beginnings in 2008 to being the home of a 2018 National Elite champion.

“The cream of our boxing talent will be in action on the night, in what promises to be a very competitive, exciting card. We are looking forward to welcoming former members, new members, all of the club’s connections and boxing fans to Smithfield Boxing Club: The Story So Far. ”

Team Ireland will have a training session in Boston today, reports Irish team manager and IABA High-Performance Director Bernard Dunne.

Ireland arrived Stateside yesterday and will attend an official event to launch three internationals versus America in New England tonight.

Both nations meet in Boston next Monday, 12th March, Springfield on 15th March and Manchester, New Hampshire on March 21.

The Irish squad, led by head coach Zaur Antia, are trebling up at middleweight and light-welter.

“We’re bringing out a young team. It’s a developing team and it’s an opportunity to have a look at them in this environment. I’m sure it’s going to be a lively atmosphere at all the bouts because it’s the St Patrick’s festival and Ireland versus the USA always attracts attention,” said Dunne.

Mike Tyson’s conqueror and Irish Olympian Kevin McBride has been named honorary Irish captain and “Irish” Mickey Ward is honorary American skipper for the treble header.
