FREE ADMISSION FOR TONIGHT’S IRELAND V INDIA MATCH AT STADIUM

Mary Kom with IABA President Pat Ryan, IABA Registrar Stephen Connolly and Liam Brereton in Edenderry

Admission is free at the National Stadium for tonight’s Ireland v India Elite Women’s international.

All fans are welcome at the home of Irish boxing for the 13-bout match featuring a legend.

Kristina O’Hara lines out at light-flyweight versus London 2012 bronze medallist Mary Kom in Dublin.

Kom has claimed five AIBA World Elite titles and four Asian Elite gold medals in her glittering career.

A silver medallist at the inaugural World Women’s World Championships in 2001 in the USA, she received an International Boxing Association Legend Award in 2016, along with Olympic champions Felix Savon and Wladimir Klitschko and Brahim Asloum. Rome 1960 Olympic champion Muhammad Ali was also honoured.

O’Hara, meanwhile, impressed at the recent EU Women’s Championships in Italy where she was unlucky to go out at the last-eight stage on a split decision to Italy’s eventual silver medallist Roberta Bonatti.

Cork’s European Elite bronze medallist Christina Desmond meets Sonia Lather in the middleweight class, while former World Youth champion and Olympic Youth silver medallist Ciara Ginty faces Sim Ranjit Kaur Baatth over three rounds at light-welter.

Ireland and India and a number of nations have been training at the St Brigid’s BC in Edenderry ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

Over 100 boxers have taken part in the international training camp organised by Liam Brereton.

India return home on September 6th.

Saturday’s international begins at 7pm. Seven sparring/exhibition matches will be held before the main event of the evening.
