IABA mourns the passing of Pat McCrory.

Former Secretary and President of the Ulster Boxing Council, Pat McCrory, has passed away.

The Ulster Boxing Council, in a statement sending its “deepest sympathies and prayers to the family and friends of boxing stalwart Pat Mc Crory” notes that “Pat will be missed by all involved in the Sport. RIP Pat 🙏🏻🥊

Mr. McCrory founded Elmfield BC, in 1970, which went on to become Glengormley BC and, in 2001, was a key figure in bringing the World Amateur Boxing Championships to the Odyssey Arena in Belfast

Mr. McCrory became an internationally qualified R&J in 1984, and served as a technical delegate at numerous major international competitions. In 2000, he was part of the AIBA R&J Commission at the Sydney Olympics and in 2007 was appointed Commission Secretary. He also served at Olympics in Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, and Beijing and numerous Commonwealth Games.

Mr. McCrory was awarded an MBE for his services to boxing over many decades in 1979

He is survived by his  wife Mary, and children Mary P, Clara, Gerard, Roisin and Patrick. He will be laid to rest in Carnmoney Cemetery, following 11.30am Requiem Mass on February 9th. Mass will be live-streamed here
