Three Team Ireland boxers to contest World Youth Finals.

Three Team Ireland boxers are assured of at least a silver medal at the World Youth Championships, following today’s semi finals.

63kg Siofra Lawless, the 2023 World Junior Champion, contested her semi today against Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva. 27:30; 27:30; 28:29; 28:29; 27:30. She’ll box for gold against Korea’s A Sin Pak, who was the 5-0 winner against Greece. They meet in bout 7 of Saturday’s finals, when boxing begins at 3pm, Irish time.

Team Captain, and reigning European champion Adam Olaniyan took on Iraq’s Amir Vandei Esmaeili for a place in the finals. Adam continued his series of decisive, dominant performances and climbs up the podium following a 5-0 decision. Judges scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30. Adam will box his final against Uzbekistan’s Shakzod Polvonov, who was the 4-1 split decision winner over Kazakhstan. That’s bout 13 of Saturday’s card.

2024 European champ, 66kg Kyla Doyle continued her domineering run of form today, with a characteristic performance against China’s Shantibieke Dina, which included counts for her opponent. The final score line was 30:26; 30:26; 30:26; 30:24; 29:27 Kyla will box for gold against Kazakhstan’s Uldana Taubay – she was the RSC2 victor over Romania.

The finals programmes have yet to be published, but Team Ireland boxers could box for gold on either Saturday or SUnday.

This tournament is the pinnacle of competition for boxers of this age group. 660 boxers from 88 national federations are representing their countries at the championship. November 1st will be a rest day at the tournament, and all finals will be boxed on November 2nd and 3rd. The competition schedule is available here
