Irish squad in Warrington
Ireland and England met for a second time in 24 hours last night, with England emerging victorious after a top class international in Warrington.
Mary Geraghty and Mary Kate Nevin had their hands raised in victory from last night’s 11-bout Youth and Junior card midway between Liverpool and Manchester.
Team manager Bernie Harold believes the potential of the team has yet to be realised.
She said: ”This trip has been a great learning experience for everyone. The experienced boxers showed the progress they have made in the past months and some of the debutantes were a real revelation.
“The strength and depth of this team has yet to be revealed. The objective of this trip was achieved in that all the boxers experienced top class competition and showed they are equal to the task.”
Both sides trained before the double header at the Hook & Jab club.
Irish women’s boxing is building up toward this summer’s European Youth and Junior Championships. The tournament will be hosted in Sofia, Bulgaria between July 2nd and 10th, according to the EUBC.
Jimmy Payne and Gerard McDaid were working Ireland’s corner in England.
Sadie Duffy is the R&J with the squad and John McKay referee.
Ireland is due to arrive home at 5pm this afternoon via Dublin Airport.
