2017 WORLD, EUROPEAN AND MULTI-NATION MEDALS

 

Irish boxing claimed 17 medals – more than half of which were gold – at Multi-Nation level in 2017.

Overall, in World, European and Multi-Nation competition, 46 medals were won.

Eight top ten positions were earned in medals tables in World and European competitions.

The Irish Women’s Youth and Junior side commanded the highest finish with a third place perch in Bulgaria in July, while the Men’s and Women’s Elite European and European Union squads finished joint 4th in the Ukraine in June and Italy in August.

14 Irish European, European Union and Multi-Nation Elite, Youth and Junior athletes topped their respective podiums this year.

The individual champions are Joe Ward (2), Michaela Walsh (1), Daina Moorehouse (1), Aoibhe Carabine (1), Callum Walsh (1),Kellie Harrington (2), Christina Desmond (1), Grainne Walsh 1) Kiril Afansev (1), Michael Nevin (1), James McGivern (1) and Aaron McKenna (1).

Ward, who won World Elite silver this year, secured double gold at European Elite and Multi-Nation level and Harrington took home double Multi-Nation gold.
