27 WORLD AND EUROPEAN MEDALS IN 127 DAYS

Joe Ward finds the target

Irish boxing has won 27 medals at all levels of male and female World and European competition this year since Joe Ward claimed European Elite light heavy gold in the Ukraine on June 24 last.

Moreover, Ireland’s various teams, from Elite to schoolboys, have never been outside the top ten in the medals table in all World and European tournaments in 127 days since Ward secured his third European title.

Michaela Walsh tops EU podium

Ward also reached the World Elite final in Hamburg in September. Ward and Michaela Walsh claimed Elite gold, while Daina Moorehouse, Aoibhe Carabine and Callum Walsh topped their respective podiums at underage level.

Meanwhile, Team Ireland will be aiming to improve the 2017 medal haul in the final World outing of the year this month.

The AIBA World Women’s Youth Championships begin Guwahati, India on November 19.
