4 Team Ireland boxers through to World Juniors Quarter Finals.

Team Ireland claimed 4 wins at the Last 16 stage for men at the World Junior Championships in Yerevan, Armenia.

52Kg Christian Doyle, Team Doyle BC recorded his second win of the tournament, a 3-2 split decision victory over Tajikistan’s Abubakr Oibilova. Judges scored that bout 29:28, 28:28, 30:26, 28:29, 28:29. Three bouts later, 57Kg Patrick Kelly, Kilmyshall BC did likewise, coming away with win number 2 against Ognjen Antic of Serbia. That bout finished 4-1 to the Team Ireland boxer: 30:27; 28:29; 25:30; 27:30; 26:30.

63Kg John Donoghue, Olympic Mullingar BC, boxed his second contest of the competition against Mongolia’s Tengis Dalantai – that finished with a unanimous decision for the Irishman – 25:30; 24:30; 26:30; 26:30; 25:30.

70Kg Alex Noonan Carmody, Riverstown BC contested against Jordan’s Yamen Fahmawiy in Bout 9, and was similarly decisive, with a UD win on a score-line of 30:26; 30:26; 30:26; 30:24; 30:26

48Kg Aaron Keogh of Drimnagh BC but in a valiant performance against Tajikistan’s Mansurkhuja Muminov, but it wasn’t to be on this occasion, finishing 27:29; 25:30; 28:28; 26:30; 26:30.

345 boxers from 51 countries are contesting the tournament, the first of its kind in 8 years. 11 of those boxers are Team Ireland athletes – one of whom, 63Kg Siofra Lawless of Four Kings BC, has at least a bronze medal by virtue of the draw.

Day Six

One Team Ireland boxer, 48Kg Lauren Crinnion, of Fr Horgan’s BC, is in action on Wednesday. She contests her Quarter Final against India’s Payal Payl, in bout 2 of Ring A’s Afternoon Session.
