5 Wins | European U17 Championship

Team Ireland recorded 5 wins on the second day of competition in the European U17 Championships.

First up today was Kristian Jubani who has won through to the 50kg quarter finals, with a dominant 5-0 win over Ukraine’s Kostiantyn Hubenko. Judges scored the bout 30: 26; 29:26; 29:27; 30: 26; 30:25. Kristian is back in action, and boxing for a medal, on Saturday. He’ll contest against Georgia’s Azaan Hussain.

John Ward has won through to the 75kg quarter finals, with a 4-1 split decision win over Italy’s Jacopo Ferati, scored 28:29; 28:29; 27:30; 28:29; 29:28. John boxes for a medal on Saturday, against England’s Michael Maughan.

William Heaphy is through to the 80+kg quarter final, following a 3-2 win over Finland’s Ekoevi Tomety in a tight bout – the final scores were 29:28; 30:27; 27:30; 27:30; 30:27. He boxes for a medal on Saturday against Poland’s Jakub Wojnicz.

Emmet Shields is through the the 48kg quarter final, following his RSC2 win over Alon Amzaleg of Israel Emmet boxes for a medal on Saturday, taking on Ukraine’s Mykhailo Sydorenko.

Michael McDonagh has won through to the 54kg quarter finals following a 3-2 split decision win over Azerbaijan’s Ibrahim Badalli. Judges scored the bout 29:28; 30:27; 28:29; 28:29; 28:29. He boxes for a medal on Sunday, against Italy’s Francesco Zonile.

Not to be for 57kg Ella Archbold in her L16 contest against Germany’s Lorin Sayim. Following a testy bout, the 3-1 decision went to the home boxer. Judges scored the bout 26:30; 27: 29; 28: 28; 26:30; 29: 27, reflecting a point deduction for Ella in the second round.

In all, 369 boxers are contesting the tourament from Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, England, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine

Aleigha Murphy contests her 52kg Last 16 bout Lithuania’s Milana Nikova in Bout 3 of Ring A’s Afternoon Session. 52kg Sean Kelly is in action three contests later, in Bout 6, against Poland’s Mateusz Adamski. 60kg Jason Donoghue steps between the ropes for his second contest in Bout 10 of the same ring and session, taking on Artjom Timašov of Estonia.

Team Co-Captain Padraig Walsh boxes his 63kg Last 16 contest in Bout 9 of Ring A’s Evening Session, against Ukraine’s Rostyslav Horodynskyi. 66kg Kai Dynes Murphy is in action in the last bout of the session, Bout 16. He contests against Romania’s Eduard-Marian Tangerica.

And 57kg Kalib Walshe makes his debut in Bout 8 of Ring B’s Evening Session Raul Heydarli of Azerbaijan.
