46kg Aleigha Murphy has opened her 2024 European School Championship campaign in resounding style, with a RSC1 over Italy’s Christina Simone Milosi. She contests her quarter final against Armenia’s Yeva Grigoryan on Tuesday.
Exiting the European School Championships on the narrowest of margins is Team Co-Captain, 51kg Ella Archbold. She contested against Italy’s Aurora Turrin and the 3-2 split decision went to her opponent. The final scores were: 29:28; 29:28; 27:30; 27:30; 29:28.
48kg Maggie McDonagh put in a valiant effort in her contest against Russia’s Zarina Kuchieva. She suffered a point deduction for holding, and the 4-0 decision went to her opponent. Judges scored the bout: 30:26; 28:28; 29: 27; 29: 27; 29: 27.

Thirty nations are participating: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey. There are 363 boxers in the tournament – 363 boys and 240 girls. August 8th is a rest day at the tournament. This is the 21st iteration of the championship. The first Europeans, for male boxers 13 and 14 years old, was held in Rome, Italy in 2003. The most successful team was Turkey, who went home with six gold medals. Second place went to Russia, with three champions, while Ireland, Italy, Azerbaijan and England had one gold medal each. The first EUBC Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships was held in Albena, Bulgaria in 2018. Fifteen years after the inaugural Schoolboys Championships, 12 girls were crowned European Champions.

5 Ireland boxers are between the ropes on Day Three of the tournament. 66kg Charlie Dixon takes on Moldova’s Pavel Raducanu in Bout 8 – while in Ring B, 54kg Tadhg Brennan Tansey returns for his second bout of the tournament. He takes on England’s Billy Long in Bout 10.
In Ring A’s Evening Session, 44kg Sean Kelly gets his tournament underway in Bout 4, against Armenia’s Hakob Sharbatyan. In bout 10, 60kg Ruairi Walker meets Croatia’s Cerim Hoxhaj. 50kg Francis Maughan boxes Slovakia’s Dominik Sira in the opening evening bout in Ring B
