9 Team Ireland boxers contest European Games quarter finals.

An historic day awaits in the Nowy Targ Arena, Poland, as 9 Team Ireland boxers will contest European Games quarter finals.

The European Games is an Olympic Qualification event. A total of 44 places at Paris 2024 are available at these Games. In all weights excepting 75kg, 51kg and 92kg, a semi-final finish will win qualification. In these three weights, a finals finish is required. 319 boxers, in all, are contesting the tournament.

Yesterday, 50kg Daina Moorehouse won out of the Round of 16, following a 3-2 split win over veteran, Ukraine’s Tetiana Kob. You can hear her post bout interview here. Today, she contests against France’s Wassila Lkhadiri. 57kg Michaela Walsh claimed a 5-0 last 16 victory over Greece yesterday, and speaking to IABA, says she can almost taste becoming a two time Olympian. 75kg Aoife O’Rourke had a battle with Cindy Winner Djankeu Ngamba, which came down to the last punch – she says it was one of her toughest bouts in years. First up for Team Ireland today is 54kg Jennifer Lehane – she opens proceedings in Ring B’s afternoon session, against Patrova of Bulgaria. In Ring A’s bout 2, Olympic lightweight champion, Kellie Harrington meets Swedish opposition. In Ring B’s bout 4, 66kg Amy Broadhurst boxes for a place at Paris 2024 against GB’s Rosie Eccles. In Ring A’s Bout 8, Sligo’s 63.5kg Dean Clancy meets Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga. Deise man, 80kg Kelyn Cassidy, contests against Ukraine’s Olseksandr Khyzniak and in the following bout, heavyweight Jack Marley meets Croatia’s Marco Calic.
