Dr. Valerie Hayes is the High Performance Boxing Medical Officer at Sports Ireland Institute. She is also studying for a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine in University College Cork and as part of this, is conducting research into the Prevalence of Low Energy Availability and Disordered Eating in Female Combat Sport Athletes.
Low Energy Availability occurs where energy intake through food does not match the amount of energy burned through training. This means that the body does not have enough energy to function normally.
She would be grateful if you would consider sharing the below survey your female athletes (aged over 18) and encourage them to complete the survey. It takes 15 minutes to complete and is written in easy to understand English. It is completely anonymous.
If you require any additional information on the study, Valerie can be contacted at 122113268@umail.ucc.ie
