CARRUTH AND MAHON ARE THE WHEEL DEAL

Olympic Champion Michael Carruth and Pete Mahon, President of Monivea Boxing Club and the Director of Principal Construction (sponsors to the IABA), yesterday completed the Malin2Mizen 640 km cycle in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Carruth, the Barcelona 1992 gold medallist, signed up as an ambassador for the 2018 cycle and this year went a step further and took part in the fundraiser.

The Drimngh BC man put in the hard hours in preparation for the marathon four-day tour.

“I’ve been training for the Malin 2 Mizen since October. I did two-and-a-half hours this morning, about 55k. It was hard on the way out: the breeze was in my face, but, typical of Ireland, when you turned around back home, it’s in your face again,” said Carruth before the cycle.

The cycle starts in Malin Head, County Donegal and finishes in Mizen Head, County Cork.

Friday 10th May: Bundoran to Oranmore (172km)
