She’ll now meet North Korea’s current World and Asian champion Mi Choi Pang, the No. 1 seed, in the last 16 next Tuesday.

“I’m happy with today but Tuesday is a new day and a new opponent,” said Smith after getting Ireland off to a winner on the Mongolian border.

Michaela Walsh, the No. 5 seed in Ulan-Ude, and Amy Broadhurst box Saturday and Sunday.

Meantime, Ireland’s Ben McGarrigle refereed today’s bout between Uzbekistan and Morocco on the opening day of the Championships.
