Louth lightweight Amy Broadhurst and Roscommon middleweight Aoife O’Rourke, pictured, box in the afternoon and evening sessions in the semi-finals of the European Elite Women’s Championships in Madrid on Friday.

Broadhurst meets Finland’s No. 1 seed and defending 60kg champion Mira Potkonen, a bronze medallist at Rio 2016, at approximately 2.30pm (Irish time) and O’Rourke faces Russia’s current Olympic Youth and World Youth champion Anastasia Shamonova at approximately 7pm (Irish time).

Both Irishwomen are guaranteed at least bronze at the 31-nation tournament.

Today is a rest day at the tournament.

The finals will be decided on Saturday.

The Irish squad are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport this Sunday morning at 10.40am.
